Cancun, the perfect destination for a family vacation

Planning a family vacation is exciting until you can't decide on the perfect destination to satisfy your needs and your children's. Many factors come into consideration when planning a family vacation: location, weather, kid friendly hotels, amenities, and sightseeing. I have traveled to plenty of places around the globe; however, by far Cancun has been my favorite.

Family Friendly

Cancun is not only known for it's nigh life and attracting a young crowd, it's turquoise water, clean beaches, natural essence, and historic temples make Cancun a deal breaker for any age group. It's important to mention there are family friendly hotels that offer large amounts of family services that allow a parent's night out or spa day without having their kids around. It's hotel list ranges from budget friendly to high-end resorts that fit your needs and desires.

  • Baby-sitting facilities
  • Outdoor playground
  • Themed water parks
  • Sports Courts
  • Pools

Cuisine

If you are looking for a place where you can not only eat food, but art, Cancun is the place. The cuisine is well delivered, authentic, and delightful, your taste buds will not regret it. High-end resorts indulge in diverse cuisine that allow you to enjoy from a variety of cultures. Cancun also offers all-inclusive packages providing opportunities to it's tourists to enjoy a 5 star hotel stay with room service 24 hours and unlimited food and drinks. Doesn't that sound like a match made in heaven? Uh. Yes! You get to eat and indulge on quality cuisine without breaking your bank, now that's goals!

Amenities

The large variety of amenities and sight seeing spots at Cancun makes it ideal for a family trip. It's geographical location provides knowledge and learning to the kids while enjoying it's beautiful sceneries.

Chichen-Itza

Despite the famous landmark, which is considered one of the seven wonders of the world, being in the nearby state of Yucatan, it's a must go for all Cancun tourists. It's distance from Cancun is about 200 km., which estimates about 2 hours away. Chichen-Itza welcomes kids of all ages, there are tourist buses and guides that take you all along the area and provide important information about the previous lifestyle the Mayan's held.

XCARET

Tropical vibes, fresh air, culture inspired, and views that are worth a million bucks. That and more is XCARET, it's a place where you can enjoy of flamingoes, birds, lizards, and more friendly animals walking around as if you are somewhere in the Amazonian. It's clear and well preserved water running from the water tunnels make this experience as cool as it's temperature. This place is ideally for kids as they get to snorkel with the fish and swim with the dolphins, definitely the place you want to visit if you are in Cancun!

Cenotes

Cenotes are one of Cancun's most exotic and intriguing attractions of the area. People often wonder how cenotes formed and how clean and natural the water remains despite being underground sitting water. Cenotes are very popular around this area and there are dozens of cenotes in Cancun and areas nearby. Children of course would have to be cautious, but will definitely love to learn about how acidic water dissolves the minerals in limestone and therefore form such beauty.

I added a list of the top 5 must see cenotes:
  • Grand Cenote
  • Cenote Zacil-Ha
  • Cenote Manati
  • Cenote Calavera
  • Cenote Aktun Ha
  • Cenote Yaxmuul
If you don't get a chance to go to all 5, you must go to at least one. You will not regret it!

Budget Friendly

Cancun overall is a perfect destination for a family trip if you are a parent; however, if you still haven't started a family this place will be equally as amusing and entertaining. Flights are very affordable and time-share friendly, an experience that is definitely worth it!

Visiting Cancun takes a lot of planning and if you would like to keep a budget it's important to book in advance, consider 3-4 months in advance. The best time to travel with kids is April through June and the month of November are ideal for families to visit Cancun. On average a family vacation for 4 will cost you about $3,758 for a 7-day trip.

Make your research before booking, but remember that the earlier you book, the better. Avoid going during Summer as it's hurricane season at Cancun. Have a safe flight!
